About the film

An orphaned boy in modern Stockholm, neglected and bullied, releases a genie from a bottle and is carried off to the magical Land of Faraway, where he learns his true name is Mio and his father is its king. Mio and his friend Jum-Jum set out to defeat the iron-clawed knight Kato, who has been enslaving children across the kingdom — a quest that costs them dearly before the land, and its captive children, are freed. Based on Astrid Lindgren's novel Mio, min Mio, this Gorky Film Studio co-production starred a young Christian Bale alongside Christopher Lee.
