About the documentary
Made for the 90th birthday of the Soviet filmmaker Marlen Khutsiev, this documentary revisits a career that gave Russian cinema Spring on Zarechnaya Street, July Rain and I Am Twenty. Fellow directors describe him as a poet of cinema and a shaper of a new film language, and the film also follows Khutsiev's long-running project Nevecherняя, a study of an imagined meeting between Chekhov and Tolstoy that he had then been developing for nearly fifteen years. Released in Russian as Упрямец Хуциев.
